Located in Danville, KY, the historic, picturesque 150-acre campus is 30 miles from Lexington, in the famed Bluegrass Region of Central Kentucky.

Reports directly to the Director of Public Safety and is responsible for providing basic security functions, enforcing campus rules and regulations, conducting fire and safety inspections, enforcing parking and traffic regulations and responding to calls for assistance. This person is a member of the Student Life staff reporting to the Vice President for Student Life through the Director of Public Safety. This position is on a rotating schedule of 4 days per week, 10 hour shifts. This position will be second shift.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Enforce all College rules and regulations, as well as, local, state and Federal laws;
  • Responsible for building security and periodic building checks;
  • Conduct routine fire and safety inspections on campus;
  • Investigate and report on incidents, offenses, injury/illnesses and non-injury motor vehicle accidents;
  • Patrol the campus on foot and by using various vehicles including bicycles, automobiles and golf carts;
  • Conduct fire drills in all residence halls each semester;
  • Respond to calls for assistance including unlocks, motorist assists, suspicious and criminal activity and after-hours maintenance requests;
  • Maintain the campus fire extinguisher program;
  • Communicate with the Danville Police Department regarding crimes occurring on or near campus;
  • Enforce parking and traffic regulations;
  • Proper maintenance of all department equipment;
  • Working special events;
  • Demonstrate an appreciation for and sensitivity to a diverse academic community, fostering an inclusive environment for students, faculty, and staff from a variety of social, economic, cultural, ideological, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.

  • Contribute to the overall success of the department by performing all other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Some college courses preferred.
  • Training in inter-cultural competency preferred.
  • Related work experience, in the areas of safety and security.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Good oral, written and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Ability to function collaboratively within a diverse and dynamic setting.
  • Ability to work with little supervision.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, which will include evening, weekend and holiday hours.
  • Computer skills necessary.

Physical Requirements:

  • Limited pushing, pulling, lifting. Lifting would not exceed 20 lbs.
  • Mobility on campus necessary.
