Job Description

The Garwood laboratory at the Center for Magnetic Resonance Research has an opening for a postdoctoral researcher involving a project focused on developing new techniques and hardware for performing magnetic resonance imaging (MR) with small, compact magnets having highly nonuniform magnetic fields.  The project is currently funded by the NIH, and the position is for 1 year starting immediately.


A successful candidate is expected to have a strong background in innovating advanced electronics and software for MRI. Experience acquiring and processing experimentally obtained MR data are desired.

Duties
⢠Design and build hardware for new MRI methods using frequency-swept techniques and multi-coil arrays (40%)
⢠Develop software for performing image acquisition and reconstruction (10%) 
⢠Create and use computer programs to perform simulations of the developed technologies, for the purpose of testing and optimizing their performance (10%)
⢠Implement these MRI methods and programs on a custom-built MRI scanner and make experimental measurements to assess and optimize their performance (30%)
⢠Present and publish research findings (10%)
⢠Other duties as assigned.

All required qualifications must be documented on application materials.
Required Qualifications: 
⢠PhD in Electrical Engineering
⢠At least 4 Years of research experience in MRI technical development 
⢠Experience designing, building, and testing prototype MRI scanner hardware

Preferred Qualifications:
⢠PhD thesis research focused on MRI, especially MRI hardware
⢠Experience in computer software (MATLAB, CST, â¦) for MRI research 
⢠MRI pulse sequence programming experience
⢠Experience in optimizing, developing, and implementing gradient coil arrays for MRI
⢠Knowledge of FPGA programming for MRI hardware development
⢠Experience developing and testing RF coils for MRI
⢠Ability to present research effectively through both writing and speaking
