Langson IMCA is a start-up organization with limited, though growing, personnel and financial resources within a large, established institution that is part of the University of California public education system. Langson IMCA brings together students, faculty, scholars, artists, and other publics to generate new knowledge and learning, and foster transformative experiences inspired by California Art and its global contexts. Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Associate Director of Education and Community Engagement and as a member of the Education and Community Engagement Department, the Teaching Artist will collaborate with a team of Museum Educators and help mentor UCI students as Museum Art Educators, provides work direction and supervision to lower-level educators to helps build relationships with partner K-12 schools, and the University.

Researches, develops, implements, and presents museum education programs about collections, exhibitions, research, and related subject area content, to enhance public understanding. Coordinates programmatic logistics, including schedules, resources, budgets and training. The Teaching Artist develops lesson plans and scripts, team-teaches lessons developed in collaboration with the Museum Art Educator for the Education Department’s Virtual School Visit and the IMCA’s multi-visit program.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $28.07- $29.60 (Hourly).

Required:
  • Thorough knowledge of museum educational techniques and approaches, and the ability to apply them across programmatic type(s) and environment(s).
  • Thorough knowledge of the learning characteristics of museum audiences.
  • Thorough subject area knowledge.
  • Thorough knowledge and skills in training development and / or learning strategies, and program and educator assessment.
  • Thorough project management skills.
  • Ability to make sound judgments / decisions.
  • Originality, creativity and ability to maintain classroom attention.
  • Thorough knowledge of emerging educational technologies and their application within museum education programming.
  • Strong verbal, interpersonal, presentation and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of promotional and marketing techniques for museum educational programming.
  • Ability to think creatively to expand student and community engagement and program impact.
  • Ability to contribute and succeed within a collaborative work environment. Comfortable being mentored by professional Teaching Artist and Education Staff.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Comfortable working with the public and students of all ages.
  • Knowledge of art education, studio art, or visual arts and studio practice


Preferred:

  • Thorough knowledge of budget tracking and analysis strategies.
  • Fluency in a foreign language a plus, preferably Spanish knowledge.

  • The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and may occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
  • Must have access to transportation and ability to transport art supplies for off-site partner school visits and artmaking workshops.
