Job Summary Permian Basin Overview
ConocoPhillips and its heritage companies have operated in the Permian Basin for almost 100 years. The transformational acquisitions of Concho Resources Inc. and Shell Enterprises LLC's prolific positions in the Delaware and Midland Basins in 2021 further strengthened the company's position in the Permian Basin. At year-end 2023, the company held approximately 1 million total net acres in the Permian Basin.
During 2023, net production averaged 719 MBOED.
Position Overview If you are selected as the Process Engineer, you will report to Lower 48 Discipline Engineering organization and will be responsible for providing development engineering/project execution support to infrastructure projects which can include wellsite facilities, pipelines, central facilities and larger infrastructure projects. The Process Engineer will support the engineering, commissioning, and startup phases of project execution. This support will be consistent with Company engineering standards, state and local requirements, and applicable industry codes. The position has excellent exposure to a variety of engineering and technical challenges that surround production field equipment in the Permian basin.
Your responsibilities may include: - Provide process engineering support to the Projects, Base and Operations teams as required. This includes coordination between Project Engineers, Discipline Engineers, contract engineering firms, Base Engineers, Production Operations and Commissioning teams among others
- Simulate gas and liquid processes on various process simulators (HYSIM, HYSYS, PROMax, Pipesim, Flarenet, etc)
- Support the development of the engineering and construction project scopes of the work
- Responsible for the completion of design sizing for equipment, hydraulic calculations, control valve sizing and other process design related tasks when needed
- Able to develop/prepare basis of design, process flow diagram (PFD), piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), heat and material balances (H&MBs), equipment datasheets, others
- Provide process engineering support during engineering reviews: 3D model, P&ID, HAZOP and other design reviews
- Flare & Relief Valve review and sizing
- Provide assistance to other design disciplines as required in the preparation of equipment specifications
- Excellent understanding/comprehension of engineering deliverables such as facility layouts, P&ID's, area classification, Cause and Effect Diagrams, etc
- Clearly demonstrate technical competence specifically in the areas of oil and gas processing, gas dehydration and pipeline operations
- Provide technical expertise to the project execution team
- Provide direction to third-party engineering contractors in support of engineering deliverables
- Strong leadership abilities and social skills. Ability to influence others and resolve conflicts
- Teamwork and effective collaboration
- Demonstrate ability to establish priorities and critical tasks in managing multiple activities
- Provide support for and participate in the MOC process. Perform risk assessments and/or PHA studies as required, to comply with the HSE Management System
Basic/Required: - Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
- Current/ Valid Driver's License
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, other related business field, other related technical field, or foreign
- 5 or more years of engineering experience in the oil and gas industry
- 1 or more years of experience working with process modeling software (HYSYS, HYSIM, Aspen Plus, ProMax, PIPESIM, Flarenet)
- Intermediate level of knowledge of process from well facilities, central facilities to delivery points
- Intermediate level of knowledge of technical standards (API, ASME, ANSI, etc.)
- Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to travel 25% of the time on a yearly basis
Preferred: - 10 or more years of direct engineering design experience/operations support in upstream oil and gas facilities, construction/installation, operation, and optimization
- 1 or more years of experience with directing engineering contractors
- Advanced knowledge of technical standards (API, ASME, ANSI, etc.)
- Advanced understanding of the project process
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects
- Good understanding of risks and risk management
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
- Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by holding others accountable and standing up for what is right
- Delivers positive results through realistic planning to accomplish goals
- Builds effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical
