Job Description

EXTEND OVERVIEW
Extend is a rapidly growing fintech startup in the B2B payments space with a focus on serving banks and their customers. We have built the first virtual card platform of its kind, directly integrated with processors, networks, and the technology that supports banking across the industry.

We offer several virtual card products including an app-as-a-service that banks can offer business customers with their existing credit cards, a suite of virtual card APIs for those looking to build custom payment solutions, and we also offer secure connectivity to key banking and payment services that enable 3rd-parties to integrate and embed payments into their software.

Founded in 2017 by 3 industry experts with experience at Fortune 500 companies, including American Express and Capital One, Extend is headquartered in Manhattan and has recently raised $40m in venture capital from top fintech investors. With extreme monthly growth and 80+ mission-driven employees, now is prime time to join our team!

ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Senior Web Engineer at Extend, you will have the opportunity to build and own an evolving and forward-thinking web application. You will be expected to be able to work autonomously, use modern tools and libraries, collaborate across teams, participate in guild meetings, and have open and honest discussions about how to help your team and the company grow. At Extend, you will find plenty of opportunities to learn and grow and be surrounded by other passionate people that will support you in your journey as an engineer. This is a hybrid position, working on-site from our New York based-office Tuesday through Thursday.

At Extend, you will:
  • Architect and build: Implement reusable and performant UI components to deliver new features and capabilities to our growing user base.
  • Collaborate: Work with product and design counterparts to help clarify requirements, identify product goals, and scope new features in order to deliver value to our customers.
  • Advocate: Identify areas of improvement in our codebase or process to ensure we’re efficiently delivering new features while maintaining the long term quality of the product.
  • Mentor: Provide mentorship and guidance to other engineers on best practices in front-end architecture, web performance, and code maintainability via pairing, guild meetings, and code reviews.
  • Lead: Guide technical discussions, influence decision making within the team, and motivate the team to deliver high quality work.
  • Take ownership: Demonstrate an owner's mindset about the product and take responsibility for the overall quality of the platform and how we work together as a team.

THE CANDIDATE

We’re looking for someone who fits the following criteria:

  • Track record: At least 4 years of professional experience as a software engineer working in Agile environments, delivering features on time and in scope. Experience leading a refactor of UI components or migrating state management libraries is a plus.
  • Technical expertise: Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, extensive experience with React and Redux, and experience implementing RESTful APIs. Experience working in and maintaining complex codebases ideally with homegrown component libraries.
  • Product thinker: Care for the end user experience and a demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams including product and design. The ability to weigh tradeoffs between building robust features and delivering value to our users quickly.
  • Collaborator: Experience coaching junior developers on code quality, best practices, and process. Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  WHAT WE OFFER

  • A competitive compensation package
  • Equity for all–our success is your success
  • Unlimited vacation–and we want you to use it
  • 401K matching
  • Flexible work options
  • Comprehensive health coverage for you and your family, effective day one of employment
  • Maternity and paternity leave benefits

  • Professional development budget
  • $5K referral bonus–bring your friends!
  • Work with and learn from functional experts across disciplines

The anticipated salary for this role is $150,000-$160,000. Your final base salary will be determined based on various factors which may include, but are not limited to location, work experience, skills, knowledge, education and/or certifications. You may be eligible to participate in Extend’s annual bonus plan, based on individual and organizational performance.
