Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Life Insurance Underwriter to play a key role in our automated underwriting and product governance functions. As part of our team, you will support our instant-issue life insurance application platform across three primary areas:
- Field Underwriting Support: You'll provide guidance by answering underwriting-related questions from our customer support team, advising on agent training, and contributing to informational materials.
- Post-Issue Audit Support: You will review the performance of our underwriting engine and third-party data sources to ensure compliance and accuracy for our carrier clients.
- Underwriting Innovation: You will continuously improve our underwriting model, including refining rules, assessing new data sources, and analyzing their impact on our processes. You may also handle desk underwriting of digital applications that require further review.
In this role, you'll collaborate closely with our carrier clients, including Chief Underwriters at various carriers, and work alongside our internal teams in customer support, data analytics, and product development. Strong communication, collaboration, and customer service skills are essential.
Work Arrangement: Remote (Must be based in the United States)
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience as a Life Insurance Underwriter
- Experience with automated underwriting engines is preferred
- Familiarity with common underwriting data sources, such as Milliman Irex, LexisNexis Risk Score, MVR, LabPiQ, Sherlock, and MIB
- Experience in product development and field underwriting support is highly desirable
- A passion for innovation in underwriting, with experience in updating underwriting manuals, refining rules, and developing new standards
- Strong knowledge of the life insurance industry, including business processes and products
- Self-motivated with a passion for creating exceptional products
- A "roll-up-your-sleeves" attitude to get things done, both independently and collaboratively
- Ability to think independently and find solutions with limited guidance and resources
- Strong qualitative and quantitative analytical skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
