Job Description
The Procter & Gamble Cogeneration Plant, also referred to as the SCA Cogen II is located in Sacramento, CA and has been designed as part of the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD). This facility has an immediate opening for a Power Plant O&M Operator. This critical role is responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of the power facility while assigned to the Maintenance Department. Essential responsibilities include to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical equipment, electrical equipment and instrumentation. This equipment includes, but is not limited to the gas turbine, steam turbine, generators, heat recovery steam generator, cooling towers, air compressors, water treatment equipment, demineralizers, motors, pumps, diesel generators, and other auxiliary equipment. To be successful in this role, the O&M Operator must strictly adhere to all safety and environmental rules and regulations to protect employees and public safety.
Annual Salary Range for this position is $85,000 - $110,000 as commiserate with experience and education.
Job Responsibilities
- Sets priorities for the day to day work of the Maintenance OMT’s.
- Provides the Maintenance Manager with detailed information regarding the daily, weekly, and monthly work schedule for the Maintenance OMT’s.
- Plans projects and work orders, including ordering materials.
- Works with the Operations LOMT to ensure that facility priorities are addressed
- Assists the Planner and Maintenance Manager to develop work plans for upcoming projects
- Assists other Maintenance OMT’s to ensure that all tasks are completed in a timely manner.
- Completes work order activities as needed.
- Interacts with contract support to assist in facility maintenance.
- Organizes contractors via the EthosEnergy Group WAS program to ensure that all permits are being completed properly.
- Interacts with the Planner to provide information for scheduling projects and outages.
- Maintains a combined cycle generating facility and all associated auxiliary and support equipment with minimal guidance or assistance. This position requires making operating decisions based on plant procedures, environmental regulations, safety procedures, and using good judgment based on operating data.
- Reads meters, gauges, or automatic devices to record data such as temperature of equipment, vibration of equipment, hours of operation, pressure, and fluid levels to verify operating conditions. Visually inspects and listens to equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment or lubrication.
- Communicates plant issues and keeps the Maintenance Manager, Operations Manager and/or Facility Manager fully informed of unusual conditions, damaged equipment, and current job progress as the job relates to facility operations. This also applies when performing maintenance when either on or off shift.
- Fully supports the use of a computerized maintenance management system (Maximo) by displaying a proficiency in using the system, entering data consistent with fellow employees and dedication to the facility maintenance philosophy. Thoroughly records equipment problems on Mainsaver work requests and documents maintenance actions taken on work order forms. Handles corrective maintenance and preventive maintenance work orders in a timely and high quality manner. Shows diligence in documenting spare parts usage and re-ordering.
- Sets up and operates various tools and instruments to repair parts and equipment. Operates welding and cutting equipment and completes metal fabrication projects.
- Performs capital project and/or major program responsibilities as assigned by the Maintenance Manager.
- Reads, understands and complies with all regulatory procedures and facility safety programs. Follow all plant environmental permits.
- Maintains the cleanliness of all areas of the plant and maintenance shop area, or other duties as assigned.
Required Skills / Knowledge
- Demonstrates knowledge of all facets of gas turbine power plant maintenance.
- Demonstrates the ability to make competent decisions in emergency situations.
- Capable of writing procedures, work requests, purchase requisitions, and work plans.
- Demonstrates the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical one-lines, logic drawings, technical manuals and P&ID's, write routine reports, solve practical problems.
- Must clearly communicate tasks and needs, and training of other personnel.
- Mechanical, instrumentation and electrical equipment knowledge is required.
- Demonstrates knowledge of all facets of power plant operations.
- Demonstrates the ability to make competent decisions in emergency situations.
- Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of electrical support systems for a combined cycle power plant.
- Knowledge of GE 7FA and GE D11 Turbine/Generators.
- Knowledge of ZLD plant equipment.
- Knowledgeable in Maximo.
