Job Description
As a Nonprofit Human Services Underwriter, you will play a vital role in analyzing and assessing exposures and acceptable risks for various nonprofit organizations, including human service organizations, educational institutions, and religious entities. Your insights will help determine adequate and competitive coverage options and premiums for accounts, which may include those with premiums up to $1,000,000.
Key Responsibilities:
- Risk Analysis and Selection:
- Analyze and select business opportunities, ensuring profitable pricing with clear terms and conditions of coverage.
- Review inspection reports, risk assessments, and financial documents to identify potential concerns.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with Risk Control to schedule inspections, follow-ups, and service needs for insured organizations.
- Drive corrective actions and remediation strategies for renewal accounts, ensuring proactive engagement.
- Timely Approvals and Compliance:
- Escalate accounts needing further review or approval to senior underwriters in a timely manner.
- Ensure compliance with service expectations and regulatory standards by managing the timely release of renewals, non-renewals, and conditional notices.
- Performance Accountability:
- Achieve key performance indicators within your portfolio and develop strong relationships with distribution partners through:
- Regular portfolio review calls
- Adherence to customer feedback guidelines
- Occasional travel to partner offices
- Maintain ongoing communication with team members about the health of assigned agencies and market trends.
- Cultivating a High-Performing Culture:
- Deliver exceptional customer service and demonstrate strong business acumen.
- Provide mentorship to support staff, fostering their career development through guidance and training.
- Conduct peer audits and approve underwriting decisions for associates with lower authority levels.
- Assist in onboarding and training new hires, ensuring a supportive learning environment.
- Additional Duties:
- Perform other related tasks as assigned to support team objectives.
Required Qualifications:
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in commercial lines underwriting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to analyze information and make timely decisions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in underwriting for nonprofit human services and/or educational accounts.
- Working towards or already possessing a CPCU or equivalent industry certification.
Compensation:
- $65,100 - $108,500, commensurate with experience, plus bonus eligibility.
- $71,700 - $119,500, commensurate with experience in CA, CT, MA, NJ, NY, and PA, plus bonus eligibility.
