Organization: Nursing & Health Studies

Title: Lecturer Part-Time Temporary, Nursing and Health Studies

Position

The School of Nursing & Health Studies at the University of Washington Bothell (UWB) seeks to fill ongoing openings for Lecturer Part-Time Temporary faculty. A commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level is essential, as is a commitment to support and enhance learning for diverse populations. We are seeking candidates to join our pool of part-time faculty with FTE typically ranging from 33.4% to 66.8% for a 3-month service period (equivalent to 1 to 2 courses per quarter). These are part-time positions and have quarterly (3-month) service periods that begin on September 16, December 16, and/or March 16. Quarterly appointments may vary based on instructional need within the school. Positions in this title are non-tenure track and not promotion eligible. Recurring quarterly appointments at 50% or greater that result in academic year-long employment will be limited to a total of 3 consecutive academic years.

We encourage applicants whose interests align with our commitment to fostering diversity and inclusivity to apply. We are particularly interested in applicants who can teach courses related to social justice and health, program planning, community health nursing, critical evaluation of nursing literature and application to evidence-based practice, nursing pedagogy, and epidemiology. Some courses require the candidate to be currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a registered nurse in Washington.

The monthly base full time salary is $7500 for masters prepared, and $8000 for PhD prepared. Compensation is calculated per course, for example one course is worth 33.4% FTE and will be paid in full at $7500 for masters prepared, and $8000 for PhD prepared for the quarter.

The successful candidates will be dynamic scholars and educators, whose work bridges theory and practice of healthcare and systems, including nursing and public health. The successful candidates will use lecture modalities and active learning teaching techniques, or will have the willingness to learn alternative teaching modalities that ensure the best results. The successful candidates will enjoy working independently yet are interested in sharing ideas collaboratively. The ideal candidate will have previous college-level teaching and relevant clinical experience, including course delivery using hybrid modalities. Doctoral (eg, PhD, DNP, DrPH) degrees are desirable, though may be substituted by appropriate pedagogical and work experience.

The School of Nursing and Health Studies was one of the first programs established at UWB, and we remain committed to attracting diverse faculty and staff who create an exceptional student experience. As a School, we are committed to advancing social justice, health, and nursing practice through innovative pedagogy, research and community engagement. Our faculty are dynamic educators who engage in innovative, evidence-based pedagogies. Seventy-five percent of UWB faculty engage students as research collaborators, and we continue to develop community and industry partnerships to expand internship, capstone, and collaborative research opportunities for students and faculty. We offer four degrees (RN-BSN, MN, BA, and MS) and three minors across a multidisciplinary School with expertise in a wide variety of health foci and disciplines. The School is housed in several buildings on a vibrant campus collocated on a restored 100-acre wetland with an active salmon stream, including the 74,000 square-foot Discovery Hall teaching and laboratory facility, with a new 77,000 square-foot STEM building in collaboration with Cascadia College.

Located in the heart of the Puget Sound region, the UWB is one of the most dynamic public universities in the state of Washington. The campus is committed to increasing access to an excellent UW education and preparing students to be leaders throughout Washington and beyond.

UWB provides students a participatory, cross-disciplinary experience grounded in hands-on learning, community-based research, close relationships with faculty as teachers and mentors, and the personalized support of staff who are dedicated to student success. The campus offers more than 55 undergraduate and graduate degrees. Current enrollment is approximately 6,000 students. More than 90% of undergraduates are from Washington State, approximately 40% are first-generation college attendees, and more than half are students of color. The University values hiring faculty and staff who have demonstrated experience and ability to work successfully with diverse student populations and who can contribute to a campus culture that promotes equity among colleagues.

Diversity and inclusion are core values at UWB. Our work begins with the acceptance and celebration of the differences that are represented through the many diverse and minoritized communities on our campus and in the surrounding community. We recognize that we are bound together in a collective experience and that our actions impact all in our community. When we focus on the lives of the most marginalized groups among us, we also create conditions of equity, justice and academic excellence for everyone.
