Position description The Department of Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a Junior/Assistant Specialist in the Martik Lab in the area of vertebrate developmental biology.
The Martik Lab at UC Berkeley is seeking up to two motivated and enthusiastic Junior/Assistant Specialists to join our team. Our lab focuses on understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying neural crest development, evolution, and their roles in organogenesis, particularly heart development. The incumbent will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of researchers to support ongoing projects including development of the cranial and cardiac neural crest.
The duties of the positions include:
- Maintaining zebrafish and lamprey animal colonies
- Using single-cell RNA seq data to generate hypothesis-driven genetic experiments
- Use of software that uses Python and R to analyze genomics data
- Preparing data for verbal presentation, figures, and manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals.
- Conducting research in a collaborative environment with an appreciation for lab safety and an environment that values equity, inclusion and diversity.
- Assisting and participating in the maintenance and running of the lab including managing equipment, ordering supplies, and assisting with lab organization This position provides full benefits. Lab : Contract : Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent international degree) or enrolled in a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent international degree) program. Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent international degree). Preferred qualifications
Bachelor's degree in an area of molecular and cell biology such as biochemistry, genetics or cell biology, or related field.
Coursework in molecular biology, genetics, and developmental biology.
Proficiency in bioinformatics.
Computational analysis of datasets.
Experience working in a research lab.
Basic molecular biology techniques.
Ability to design and interpret experiments.
Ability to prepare figures for manuscripts.
