Position Highlights

University Facility Services is looking for an experienced wood worker/cabinet maker who is able to follow University design standards, policies and procedures in a professional manner while ensuring quality workmanship, a clean and safe environment and positive customer relations. This position will join our team of highly skilled carpenters on campus and will build cabinetry items as well as perform other routine wood working tasks as needed. Working conditions may include restricted movement, dirty environment, extreme temperatures and intense noise. Also includes lifting and carrying heavy objects. UFS employs just over 700 employees and services over 13 million square feet of campus-keeping the grounds beautiful, classrooms clean, and all utilities moving through the campus.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Constructs, repairs, restores and installs structures such as cabinetry, furniture, fixtures and
    shelves, countertops including laminate, trespa and corian along with custom projects that come along requiring custom woodworking and cabinetry
    skills.
  • Follows priorities and work order schedule in order to finish by completion date or before.
    Maintains a clean and safe work area/shop, cleans and returns tools and equipment. Cleans work
    site area after each job.
  • Operates CNC, sliding table saws, thickness planers, joiners, automatic edge banders, along with typical hand and electric power tools commonly found in cabinet shops, and provides hands on
    preventative maintenance of these tools.
  • Operate company vehicles such as pick up trucks, vans or flat bed vehicles with lift gates for delivering cabinetry and millwork to locations across campus.
  • Perform various carpenter tasks on campus including hanging doors, whiteboards, installing trim, ceiling grid, ceiling tile, field measure for counter-tops, cabinetry and mill-work.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Computer skills
  • Knowledge in Commercial cabinet making
  • Knowledge with Corian or similar solid surface fabrication
  • Knowledge with Laminate cabinet and counter-top fabrication
  • Proficient with power tools, such as sliding table saws, CNC, thickness planer, jointer, band saw, automatic edge bander


Minimum Qualifications

Journeyman level position. Completion of a high school education or an equivalent combination of apprenticeship program, technical training and/or experience.

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Ability to lift 50 lbs. without assistance.
  • Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
