Job Title: Associate Director of Public Safety

Reports to: Director of Public Safety

I. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES :

Under the direction of the Director of Public Safety, the Associate Director of Public Safety is responsible for processes and procedures that aid in the creation of a welcoming and safe environment for students, faculty and administrators to live, learn and work.

The Associate Director serves as a core member of the Public Safety staff, providing supervision and guidance to professional and student staff, and helps support the department?s mission of creating a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment and campus community. The Associate Director coordinates Public Safety officer tour activities, and ensures the safety and protection of the college community, property, and assets.

This position requires the incumbent to work a non-traditional work schedule, which includes evening and weekend work, in support of a 24/7, 365-day operation. This position requires participation in division and College-wide committees and initiatives.

II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Manages departmental administrative responsibilities, including special events and officer?s payroll, communications, planning and policy development.
• Primary investigator of student concerns and conduct on campus, including holding interviews and writing reports.
• Ensures the daily operations of the Public Safety office and coordination of scheduling.
• Updates and works on special events and operational budgets, equipment and supply purchases.
• In collaboration with department staff, implement a comprehensive training and development plan for Public Safety Officers. The training of the Public Safety department personnel in required, in addition to training the larger college community on crime prevention measures and safety concerns.
• Attend weekly meetings, including those on the CARE team and with Residence Life, weekly supervision meetings, and division-wide meetings and gatherings as necessary. Attend and have a physical presence at large campus wide events, gatherings, and initiatives, as needed.
• Fiscally responsible and assists with budgets, expenses, purchasing and invoice process.
• Conducts in-service training and candidate testing/interviews for staffing, screening and new staff orientation, development of new technologies and crime prevention programs / initiatives for the college which also includes community outreach.
• Ensures all local, city and state laws and policies are followed, and ensures all college and Public Safety policies are followed by the Public Safety Officers in command.
• Liaison to the local government agencies such as the NYPD and Riverdale community and residents.
• Other duties as assigned.

III. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor?s degree required.
• Preference of a criminal justice or organizational management or related fields educational background.
• Driver?s license required.
• Minimum 3 years management and supervisory experience, and a minimum 5 years work experience.
• Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs., and be prepared for walking / standing during occasional shifts.
• Excellent written and oral communication, along with an understanding of customer service.

Salary: $80,000 - $90, 000
