UTSA's College for Health, Community and Policy (HCAP) trains students to develop solutions for complex social issues to improve the well-being of our communities. By engaging directly with the City of San Antonio and other key community organizations, students and faculty live the college's mission to advance human health every day. The college is comprised of seven academic departments and one program —criminology and criminal justice, kinesiology, nutrition and dietetics, psychology, public administration, public health, social work and sociology and demography —as well as the Center for Applied Community and Policy Research, the Center for Community Based and Applied Health Research, the Institute for Demographic and Socioeconomic Research and the Institute for Health Disparities Research . Department

The Psychology Department, located in the College for Health, Community and Policy, hosts one of the largest majors on campus (over 2,000 students) and offers degree programs at the BA, MS, and PhD level. Students at each level have opportunities to assist in faculty research. Our 21 tenured and tenure-track faculty represent many of the traditional subfields of Psychology, with many bridging between areas. Psychology faculty have a history of collaboration with researchers at the US Army Research Institute as well as various Industry and community partners. The department also has strong ties to the University of Texas Health San Antonio, Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research, Veterans Administration, Pearson Testing Company, San Antonio Military Medical Center (including Brooke Army Medical Center), the Institute for Army Surgical Research, and the STRONG STAR Consortium. Position Summary

The successful applicant will be expected to teach graduate and undergraduate courses IO (e.g., general IO and IO-related specialty courses) and other courses appropriate to their expertise, direct students in our MS and PhD programs, maintain a successful research program, secure extramural funding, and engage in service to the department, college, university, and the profession.

Nearly half of UTSA's student body are first generation college students, many of whom are active-duty military, reservists, or veterans. Successful candidates will need to be able to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of these populations and support the University's commitment to thrive as a Hispanic Serving Institution and a model for student success.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Successful candidates are required to have a doctorate degree in Psychology or a closely related field, expertise in one or more areas of research falling within Industrial-Organizational Psychology, and an appropriate record of publications, and teaching for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. Candidates who are ABD with anticipated graduation before August 2025 will be considered but must complete all requirements for their PhD by August 1, 2025, to be appointed as an Assistant Professor. Applicants should have a research agenda with potential for high impact publications and extramural funding. Appointments are contingent upon Board of Regents' approval.

Successful candidates must be able to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of students making up UTSA's student body and support University commitment to thrive as a Hispanic Serving Institution and a model for student success. Examples of evidence of such ability include, but are not limited to, experience successfully teaching, mentoring, and advising in these or related populations, or experience adapting teaching and mentoring methods from one population to another.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Research relating to selection or performance appraisal, work and health, or inequity/inequality in the workplace.

  • Research in any area within IO with potential to contribute to other areas within the department, college, or university through collaborations with existing faculty or contributions to departmental teaching needs.

  • Expertise in quantitative methods and statistical analyses; teaching experience in relevant areas; experience mentoring students; and history of external funding.
