OFFICIAL TITLE:   Assistant Athletic Director, Head Athletic Trainer
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:  Director of Athletics
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Assistant Athletic Trainers/Graduate Assistants and Interns

General Statement of Duties:  The Assistant Athletic Director, Head Athletic Trainer is responsible for directing and coordinating all of the activities and personnel of the athletic sports medicine area. The incumbent will oversee and assist in providing prevention and treatment services to the athletic programs and the students of Worcester State University, and develop and oversee a comprehensive student-athlete assistant program.

Responsibilities:

  1. (E) Plan, organize, and direct the athletic sports medicine area of the Athletic Department at the university.
  2. (E) Provide supervision and guidance as necessary to the Strength and Conditioning Coach and student-athletes.
  3. (E) Provide care, prevention and treatment of athletic injuries to the university athletic community including varsity athletes.
  4. (E) Provide coverage at varsity home contest and practices and coordinate coverage with opponents for away contests.
  5. (E) Develop and supervise a student assistant program.
  6. (E) Operate and manage the athletic training room.
  7. (E) Prepare the list of medical supplies and athletic training room equipment for the annual budget.
  8. (E) Provide record keeping information for all athletic injuries and insurance forms.
  9. (E) Coordinate pre-season physicals and testing of student athletes.
  10. (E) Serve as liaison between Worcester State University and sports medicine clinics.
  11. (E) Provide supervision and instruction to the athletic training room graduate assistants and interns.
  12. (E) Provides assistance to student athletes with insurance issues including coordination of HIPPA regulations.
  13. (E) Schedule practice during school year
  14. (E) Potential for travel to local and out-of-state athletic competitions during the academic school year and scheduled breaks.
  15. (E) Help coordinate athletic camps and clinics, held on campus.
  16. (E) Serves as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).
  17. (E) Demonstrates civility and professional, customer-service oriented behavior, worthy of emulation by other staff and students.
  18. (E) Responsible for contributing to the WSU Strategic Plan.
  19. (E) Responsible for contributing to Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action objectives. Create intentional partnerships across campus.

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • N.A.T.A Certification.
  • A minimum of three years of experience working in the field of athletic training.
  • Prior experience in the field of athletic training, preferably at the university level.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and supervise the work of the sports medicine area.
  • Thorough knowledge of current athletic training principles.
  • Professional Rescuer CPR/AED.
  • Massachusetts Allied Health License.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree.
  • Athletic Training experience at the collegiate level.




Additional Information:

This is a full-time, benefited, exempt, professional APA position. The firm annual salary range for this position is $80,000- $85,000, commensurate with relevant professional experience and education. The anticipated start date for this position is May/ June.
