The Survey Research Center (SRC) at the Institute for Social Research (ISR) is a global leader in interdisciplinary social science research, specializing in the collection and analysis of data, particularly from scientific sample surveys. SRC conducts some of the most widely cited and influential studies worldwide.

This role is part of the SRC Director's Office (SRC DO) and will work within the Services, Training, Administration, and Research (START) team reporting to the Business Administration Manager. Professional development opportunities and advancement into research administration roles are also possible.

If you join the SRC team, you will become an integral part of a high-functioning network of professional administrators with broad responsibilities, expectations, and opportunities in support of the center's overall research enterprise and its research faculty.

Human Resource Administration - 40%

  • Monitor and promptly respond to HR transaction requests related to regular and temporary staff appointments.
  • Provide guidance and support SRC Programs on Administrative processes, including recruiting activities, job postings, candidate selection, and coordination of hiring processes.
  • Recommended new approaches to enhance efficiency, service, diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
  • Coordinate SRC-level appointment processes for temporary employees.
  • Create, update, and analyze center-level reports on the hiring of regular and temporary staff
  • Coordinate hiring logistics and may serve on hiring committees as needed

Onboarding and Training - 30%

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for coordinating onboarding for administrative staff positions within SRC.
  • Organizing training for new hires within the SRC, ensuring a smooth transition into the Center/Program.
  • Organize SRC Programs to facilitate any additional training and processes related to onboarding.

Financial Services and Administrative Operations 30%

  • Create and maintain operating procedures documents.
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned
  • Attend meetings, take notes, and draft correspondence.
  • Maintain intranet information related to SRC Staff HR functions.
  • Provide backup support for the Financial Specialist role in SRC START operations including but not limited to:
    • Providing accounting support, such as journal entries, vouchers, creating supplier IDs, invoice payments, processing travel and business hosting expense report payments, additional pays, and non-POs.
    • Recommend new approaches to improve efficiency, service, diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility.
    • Approve purchasing cards (PCards) expense reports, market site orders, and exception requests.
    • Process travel and hosting arrangements.
    • Creating and submitting expense reports and reimbursements for research faculty, fellows, staff, visitors, and guests.

  • Two to four years of professional work experience.
  • Professionalism, strong work ethic, discretion, and reliability.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate activities, make independent judgements, and carry them through to completion, as well as flexibility to change focus and priorities quickly.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience clearly and effectively conveying thoughts and ideas both verbally and in writing.
  • Previous responsibility with confidential information and handling sensitive information.
  • Experience with specific software suites such as Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Working knowledge of academic policies and procedures.
  • Specific HR or Financial administrative support experience.
  • Familiarity with and/or demonstrated engagement in efforts supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
